This picture frame in the form of a Border Regiment badge was made during the Second World War by a German prisoner of war (Grisedale Hall/Shap Wells Hotel?) by reverse painting the design on a sheet of glass with black paint and filling the outline with metallic paper from cigarette packets. The small central circular picture aperture now contains a period Border Regiment cap badge added by myself (perfect fit too!) as the original photo (I suspect a head & shoulders portrait) had been removed. The item came from Carlisle and measures 20cm x 26cm.

I never fail to be impressed by prisoner of war art, Border Regiment related or not. This is a great piece.
