Summary
Following the amalgamation in 1881 of the 34th (Cumberland) Regiment of Foot and the 55th (Westmoreland) Regiment of Foot to form The Border Regiment, the 1st Btn The Border Regiment continued to also use the designation number 34, and the 2nd Btn the number 55.
