- ↑ It is possible Stanley drowned as a result of returning back to England on the Hired Transport ambulance (or hospital) ship SS Donegal, which was torpedoed by German U-boat UC-21 in the English Channel. The vessel sank with the loss of 29 wounded British soldiers and 12 crew members.
