Ladies & Gents,
I have a copy of the 'The Black Angel' by Colin Bardgett. This is a small book about the Volunteers of the Border regiment in the Boer war. Anybody requiring any look ups let me know. Regards, Scottie. |

Scottie, I'm actually interested in reading this book! I've been meaning to get this along with the Lonsdale book he wrote...Colin Bardgett is a relation of mine; met him a couple of years back, nice guy. Would you recommend this to someone who has no knowledge of the Boer War? |

Kerchi, I like the book and I would recommend it, but it only gives a very brief overview of the conflict itself, it has a couple of pages from the Herald newspaper of the time then has 'Leaves' from the diary of Private Joseph Harrison of Penrith and extracts from letters from soldiers home and It also has some interesting photosWhat i like about it is you can just pick it up and browse through when the fancy takes you.Did not know he had written a book on the Lonsdales! Regards, Scottie. |

Spike, thanks for the link but I tried it a couple of times and it did not 'link'? possibly down to my lack of 'IT' skills. Cheers, Scottie. |

Scottie, I might see if Abe Books has a copy; am still interested in reading it providing it doesn't cost too much. The Lonsdale book Colin wrote, as Spike said, is hard to get hold of as it only had a limited production run. I have tried to get a copy but with no luck. The last one I saw was on eBay and went for about £45, maybe more, I can't remember. Anyway, thanks for the info re The Black Angel, will hunt it down. Cheers, Chris. |
