Title
Crudely shaped trench club from World War One
Description
Crudely shaped trench club using the natural line of a piece of wood. Shaped to create a haft with a cylindrical head, the latter has been tightly bound with steel wire and has protruding spikes made from the same wire. Reputed by donor to be German. Trench clubs were used during night time raids by both sides. Used alongside knives, they were a quiet way of killing or capturing prisoners.
