Citation reads: ''For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He made a daring reconnaissance in daylight under heavy [[rifle]] and [[shell]] fire. The valuable information obtained by him had much to do with the success of the operation.'' In 1918 he was attached to the {{wl|Royal Air Force}}, which was founded on [[1 April]] 1918 with the amalgamation of the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and the Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS).</ref>
