*Newspaper advertisement: "''[[Men of Cumberland and Westmorland, enlist(Newspaper together, and you will fight together if you join the "Lonsdale" Battalion of the Border Regimentadvert)]]''. Preliminary training together at Kendal, Carlisle or Workington. Conditions of Service: Age 19 – 35 years; Enlistment – For the duration of the War; Pay – Usual Army pay and separation allowance. Special recruiting office: Drill Hall, Edkin Street, Workington. N.B. – Private Persons willing to lodge recruits for a short time, are earnestly requested to communicate with Mr. James McKay, Hon.
