*Newspaper advertisement: "Men of Cumberland and Westmorland, enlist together, and you will fight together if you join the "Lonsdale" Battalion of the Border Regiment. Preliminary training together at Kendal, Carlisle or Workington. Conditions of Service: Age 19 – 35 years; Enlistment – For the duration of the War; Pay – Usual Army pay and separation allowance.
