The Lonsdale Battalion Roll of Honour has been compiled using ''[[Soldiers Died in the Great War, Volume 39, The Border Regiment|HMSO’s Soldiers Died in the Great War, Volume 39, The Border Regiment]]'' and cross-referenced with the [http://www.cwgc.org Commonwealth War Graves Commission] website. This was done for consistency, to ensure that the Roll of Honour was as accurate as possible - with the exception of typos that occur from time to time. Compiling a complete list of Lonsdale men killed during the war was not without its problems or challenges. There were many soldiers who served in the Lonsdale Battalion who also served in other battalions of the Border Regiment, some even transferring from entirely different regiments. The most common of these are the Herefordshire, Essex and Liverpool Regiments, which saw substantial numbers joining the Lonsdale Battalion during the recruitment drives.
The Lonsdale Battalion Roll of Honour has been transcribed exactly as it was printed in: ''HMSO’s Soldiers Died in the Great War, Volume 39, The Border Regiment''.
 
It should be noted that place names shown in brackets in the enlistment column denote the deceased soldier’s place of residence. Some instances show enlistment places in one town/county (or even country) and their place of residence in another. Additionally, there were several discrepancies between the HMSO book and the CWGC. These could be because of typos during the CWGC transcribing process, misspelled names at the time the Roll of Honour was first published by the War Office in 1921, and applicants may have intentionally (or unintentionally) misspelled his name at time of enlistment. Minor typos of place names that were noticed whilst compiling have been changed accordingly. However, soldiers names have been left exactly as printed.
Compiling a complete list of men killed whilst serving in the Lonsdale Battalion during the war has its challenges, due mainly to the number of soldiers who served in the Lonsdales that also served in other Border Regiment Battalions, or even entirely different units within the army. Many of those listed below served in various other regiments, the most common ones being the Herefordshire, Essex and Liverpool Regiments.
 
Any other errors and omissions are down to the compiling of this Roll of Honour.

* This Roll of Honour was periodically checked alongside that of the [http://www.cwgc.org Commonwealth War Graves Commission] for consistency;
* Several discrepancies between the HMSO book and the CWGC were found, this could be any of the following:
**Typos during the transcribing process for the CWGC;
**Misspelling of names at the time the Roll of Honour was first published;
**Applicants may or may not have intentionally provided a false spelling of his name at time of enlistment;
*Minor typos that were noticed during transcribing have been changed accordingly and mainly include spelling errors of places names. Soldiers names, however, have been left word for word;
*It is possible there may also be some errors in this transcription of the Lonsdale Battalion Roll of Honour.

In Kevin's own words about his passion of the Lonsdale Battalion:
::"This project is to try and obtain war grave pictures of the grave or memorial of all the Lonsdale war dead. I intend to obtain as many pictures as I can manage, of the men of the Lonsdales. The idea is to get a picture of the grave or commemoration on a memorial, which will be available free to those who request it. Also available will be a photo of the cemetery and in some cases the soldier in question. I hope to update this page as part of my Lonsdale War Grave Project.
