*Private Jimmy Murray writes to the [[Workington Star and Harrington Guardian]] saying:

I can assure you it was very welcome to me and the boys, as we werein the trenches at the time of it’s arrival. It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that a young Moss Bay footballer called I. [[A Tribute to Private McQuire|McQuire was killed]] on 22nd inst. With a whizz-bang, and two other chaps were wounded at the same time, also an officer. Young Ike was liked by everyone, from Captain to Private, in our Company, as he had a smile for everyone and was always obliging.<br>
