| I am a first time poster. I am trying to locate a George Henry Davis born England c. 1862 after 1901, he was a Sergeant in the 2nd Battalion when he married Delia Joyce in Ireland in 1887. I have found him on India with his wife in 1890. I have also found him on the 1901 census in Maryport with his wife and 2 children, by this time he is a Sergeant in the 3rd battalion, Permanent staff. Can anyone tell me where the 3rd Battalion were located between 1901 and 1914? I cannot find any trace of the family in the 1911 census, I am assuming they were abroad or did not complete the census.

| Catherine, George's attestation and discharge papers are available on findmypast. He was discharged in 1904 at Carlisle. |

| It took me a while to re-find them, as the search on FMP isn't too helpful. Select Armed Forces & Conflicts, then British Army Service Records 1760-1915. Enter his name and birth year 1862 in Basic Search and click Search. There should be one page of about 50 hits. Scan down to find the entry showing him on P Staff 3rd Border Regt. His birth year is shown as ?, but using it in the search cuts down the number of hits. For some reason if you use the Advanced Search and add Border Regiment to the search it doesn't find him. Ian |

| I don't have full subs on FMP but have taken out pay as you go sub. Can you tell me if he is shown as George or George Henry please, to save may opening multiple entries.

| He is listed as just George Davis. If you follow my instructions you should be able to find him as he is the only one on P Staff 3rd Border Regt. Regards, Ian |
