Here's a scan of a Border Regiment postcard by Gale & Polden, signed by the military artist Harry Payne.
A very sturdy and upright Corporal! |

Note he wears the QSA and KSA (Boer War medals) but a "King's Crown" on his helmet plate, thus I guess Edwardian, pre WW1 period.
Any idea of his possible WW1 service? He may have been a little old for active service, so perhaps an instructor/recruiting Sergeant? Regards Paul |

You are good at seeing the detail because I couldn't? The image is quite low res but I was also say Edwardian.
I don't think he looks too old for active service though but if he was of the "slightly older" generation then yes, I would say this chap could have been an instructor of sorts, especially having served in South Africa. Were corporals instructors? In this picture he's not a sergeant yet, unless we can assume that by the time the war started he was promoted to sergeant and therefore could have easily been involved as instructor/recruiting sergeant. As for battalion, difficult to ascertain. |
