This is a documentation subpage for Template:Licence (unknown old).

In most cases it contains usage information, example, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page.

This licence should be included on old media files where the copyright status is currently "unknown". It is not meant to be a permanent licence. Reasonable enquiry should be made to ascertain the correct licence for the media file. There are two ways to include this licence for your work: as wikitext in the Summary box or via the Licensing drop-down list.

As wikitext: Copy and paste the following {{Licence (unknown old)}} under a "Licensing" level 2 heading.
Drop-down selection: Select "Copyright status of work is currently unknown" from the list.

Double-check all the information in the summary is correct and click on "save".
