Hello, My great aunt married John James Hankinson in October 1916 and he was killed in action on 3rd March 1918. When she died in 1988 I inherited a postcard album and there are photographs of John Hankinson and embroidered cards he sent from France to her. (He was in the Manchester Regiment first but was in the 11th Batt Border reg when he died). I am currently writing a book about my Great Aunt and obviously JJ Hankinson features in it. I would really appreciate contact from you regarding J J Hankinson, my photos and information I have and also any help you might be able to give me. Please could you email me or telephone me 07517 222334. I would be very much obliged if you could. Many thanks, Karol.

Hi Karol,

Very sorry for not getting in touch sooner. I haven't been monitoring the Lonsdale Battalion inbox for some time for various reasons. However, the project is still going and I have updated your relative's remembrance page here: John James Hankinson (28773)

The one thing I wish I did have was soldiers' records because I get asked a lot regarding these. I don't have any other information about John but I hope you are happy with his remembrance page on my site. I am more than happy to add other information you may feel is appropriate in the future. All the best in your writing about your Great Aunt.

Hi Chris - do you have a preferred format for photos that I submit to you?

Hi Hugh, are you referring to the file types: jpg, png etc? If yes then I don't mind which type you send as long as they are of the following permitted file types: djvu, gif, ico, jpg, jpeg, ogg, pdf, png, svg.

If you are referring to filenames then that depends on the subject of the images. As I use categories to display the images most of the time it is helpful to be succint. For images of people I have started using surname first then rank or number followed by battalion and if that's not known, location.

You could also upload them yourself. It's faily straightforward. You'd save me a ton of time as I'm currently working on several projects at the same time.
