Was the battle honour "South Africa 1899-1902" ever used on the bronze officer's cap badge? I know it was added to the white metal badges on the lower arm of the cross in 1905, but I have never seen a bronze badge with it on.

The reason I am asking is that three times recently on e-bay bronze badges have been advertised as "rare" because they don't have it. Is it just that I haven't seen an example bearing the honour, or could it be (if it was ever added) that the true scarce ones are those WITH it on? Also the examples were advertised as cap badges, but had lugs not sliders. I believe that the officer's bronze collar badges were full-size (I don't know if they had a crown), hence those with lugs are perhaps really collar not cap badges? (An easy mistake to make if full size) Any badge collectors out there who can supply answers? Cheers Paul

Answering my own question! The S Africa 1899-1902 honour was used on bronze badges, but on the right arm of the cross, not the bottom arm as on the white metal type, Paul
