When I received some items ordered from the museum a postcard was enclosed of a self portrait of a Colour Sergeant Dollery & his wife and son. The same image is in the museum booklet in the section Showcase 3: 1815-1854. It took my interest because I have Dollerys from Hampshire in my mother's ancestry. So I did a bit of research and found that his service record is available from the National Archives, and he is indeed from Hampshire, though from the north of the county so not closely related to our Dollerys, as far as I know.
The references are:
It seems from this that Thomas may have served in the 66th until the age of 29 then the 34th to the age of 38. I haven't ordered the documents themselves, as this Dollery line is probably only distantly related to my mother's (her great grandmother was a Hampshire Dollery). Ian |
