FIT AND READY FOR ANYTHING
—Workington Star and Harrington Guardian, Published 4 February, 1916.
Stanley Smith [no rank provided], 11th Border, in a letter received on Monday says:-
Dear Sir, I was very pleased to receive your parcel of cigarettes, for which I thank you very much. I can assure you they were very much appreciated. I distributed some of them among the Workington lads of D Company. I think the majority of us get the “Star” every week, and I must say it’s a grand little paper to read, as it keeps one in touch with the old town. We are all in the best of health, fit and ready for anything. Wishing you and the generous helpers of your Smoke Fund a Happy and Prosperous New Year.—Workington Star and Harrington Guardian, Published 4 February, 1916.
