|style="font-size:100%; text-align:left; vertical-align:top; padding:0px 20px 50px 20px;"|The Lonsdale Battalion was formed by Hugh Lowther, 5th Earl of Lonsdale, and an Executive Committee with the approval of the War Office on 17 September, 1914. The Executive Committee raised four companies, all financed by the Earl of Lonsdale himself from his personal funds. Discover almost four years of the Battalion's history through formation, training and front line action.

Today, they are pivotal to learning about the daily lives of the men and the bitter fighting they endured. The Lonsdale's war diary offers a complexity of daily reports on operations, intelligence summaries, casualties, maps and various other appendices covering their time in France and Flanders.

This is a complete list of men killed whilst serving in the Lonsdale Battalion during the war. Many men listed here served in many other regiments, the most common ones being the Herefordshire, Essex and Liverpool Regiments.

1915 (Saturday)

  • The Lonsdales move to Brigade Camp at Prees Heath, Shropshire, (124th Brigade). The people of Carlisle give a mighty send off. Bands play and crowds cheer all the way along the rail lines to Oxenholme.

1916 (Monday)

  • Battalion is situated at Contay Wood involved in training.
  • Lieuts. G. Spring-Rice and C.W. Fowke[1][2] report their arrival.

1917 (Tuesday)

  • Battalion leaves Offoy at 4.15am and marches to Puzeau via Nesle and Corcny. Arrive at 8.45am.

1918 (Wednesday)

  • Maisinieres: Training the Cadre[note 1] in their duties and waiting for 328th U.S. Infantry Regiment to arrive.[note 2]
