CHAPTER LXXV
THE FRENCH ADVANCE TOWARDS LENS

Map illustrating the French advance towards Lens and the Battle of the Labyrinth.
The advance on the Arras front began on the morning of 9 May, 1915, by a concerted action between the Tenth French Army, under General Foch, with General d'urban and General Maud'huy, and the First British Army, under Sir Douglas Haig. The movement ended in a decisive victory in "The Labyrinth," an intricate system of underground defences constructed by the Germans, on 19 June.
