Workington's Black Week
Last week was Workington’s Black Week. The Nation’s chorus of praise for the gallantry of our men in the “Big Push” was hushed by sorrow here, as it meant mourning for brave men in a dozen homes, and anxiety in scores of other homes for those who were wounded. It was pitiful last week to interview those who brought in affectionate tributes to their loved ones. And we had to go over our big list of names to pick out those of men to whom no more parcels need be sent; but it was consoling to find that every man who had been wounded or killed from Workington had had tobacco comforts sent by our readers.
