On This day...16 June

1916 (Friday)

  • Contay: Battalion involved in training.
  • Newspaper article More Local Casualties with tributes for Alfred Thompson (16272) and William Walter Stephen (13641), is published.[1]
  • Lance Sergeant Mitchison writes to the Workington Star and Harrington Guardian:
Dear Mr. Star Man, A line to say I have received two parcels, one belonging to Corporal White and the other Private Copeland. Both are in hospital, so I divided the contents between the men in the Platoon, and I can tell you they all enjoyed them immensely. We all send our deepest sympathy to Private Copeland, as he has lost a brother killed while he has been in hospital. All the boys wish the Star Fund much success, which it certainly deserves.[2]

1917 (Saturday)

  • Godwaersveldt: Reveille at 3am. Battalion marches to busses and embossed at 7am, proceeding to St Pol near Dunkerque. Arrives at 1pm.

1918 (Sunday)

  • Cadre continues its own training, refresher courses etc.
