Battn in billets at LE QUESNEL as Brigade Reserve. Preparations being made prior to marching for Line. At 1pm Battn paraded & marched off by companies & relieved 2nd R. Insk. Fus. in Support Line KUROPATKIN.

Major Chamberlayne joined the Battn & took over as Second in Command.

Retirement of German Army. The Division moved forward & Battn paraded in Fighting Order & marched to ROUVROY and remained there the night.
HATTENCOURT

The German continued his retirement followed by French on Divisions right. Division moved forward two Brigades in front one in Reserve.

Battn moved to old German Front Line South of FOUQUERSCOURT. Worked on roads & bridged trenches to allow Artillery and Transport to pass. At 3.30pm Battn moved forward to HATTENCOURT & remained there.

HERLEY

Division continued its advance & Battn marched to HERLEY which was completely destroyed by retiring enemy. Battn remained there the night.
NESLE
20/3/17

Battn marched to NESLE. Leaving HERLEY 9am & arrived in NESLE 11am & billeted there.

Battn remained in NESLE. Working parties on roads & bridges destroyed by enemy. Craters on Cross Roads filled in.

Battn paraded fighting order & marched EAST leaving NESLE 12 noon & passing through VOYENNES to TOULLE arriving there 3.30pm. halted 3 hrs. At 6.45 Battn continued march to ground NORTH of GERMAINE & dug trenches 700 yds frontage, facing eastwards.
