1915

• Carlisle Citizens’ League to Lord Lonsdale: “may we point out to your lordship that the League has been mainly the instrument of collecting and forwarding to the Lonsdale Battalion over 4000 articles – overcoats, shirts, socks, blankets, pillows, razors, tobacco, pipes etc.”
• Lt-Col. Machell’s instructions for “C Company occupying entrenched position facing West, D Company attacking from Blackhall Wood.”
• Letter from Carlisle United Football Club: “thank you for allowing Private Winter, Harkness & Kirkpatrick taking Part in several of our matches of the N.E. League and they have done splendid, on Sat next we are playing our Last Match this Season at Sunderland....I should very much like to take them through I think that is the least I can do, if they fight as Good as they Play of which feel sure they will, you have some champion Lads.”
• Battalion Orders: “A special recruiting party consisting of 1 Sergeant, 1 Corporal and 3 selected privates from D Company will proceed to Workington today.”

1916

• Battalion in isolation camp at Contay Wood (measles) involved in Divisional and Brigade manoeuvres, training and small working parties.
