Western Front

• Germans capture Fort Manonviller (Avricourt).
• British on line Noyon-Chauny-La Fère: British cavalry successful near latter.
• Fall of Longwy.

Eastern Front

• Russians beat Austrians at Lützow (Galicia).
• East Prussia: Russians approach the Königsberg in the north: but in the south the Battle of Tannenberg continues against them.

Naval and Overseas Operations

• Battle of Bight of Heligoland: the German cruisers Mainz, Koln, and Ariadne sunk.
