Citation For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. His company forward posts were attacked and driven in by the enemy. A counter-attack was at once made, and, although badly wounded, he rushed from post to post, single-handed killing ten of the enemy and taking four prisoners. His great courage and cheerful spirit so inspired all with him that all the posts were retaken.
