Citation For conspicuous gallantry and ability on 29th October 1914, at Gheluvelt. A large number of the enemy having advanced into position north of the Menin road opened a heavy shell fire on our trenches, and Serjeant Riley with three men brought our machine guns across a turnip field and taking up four positions compelled the enemy to retire by his effective fire.
