Citation | “For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in taking command of his platoon and other leaderless men when his officer had been killed. He consolidated an advance position, and , when finally compelled to withdraw, did so very skilfully, and established his men in a new position. He set a splendid example of courage and coolness throughout.” |
