The following text is a Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) transcription of a Border Regiment soldier of the First World War.

Citation: For conspicuous gallantry; he volunteered to go alone up the enemy communication trench in order to reconnoitre a village. He successfully located a field gun which was doing damage, and opened fire on the enemy gunners.
