Citation For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when in charge of his platoon. In spite of the forced retirement of the troops on his flank, he held on to his position for thirty hours, under concentrated hostile fire, until relieved. His gallant action greatly facilitated the re-establishment of the line at that point, and by his courage and devotion to duty he set a splendid example to his comrades.
