Bell, 10229 (DCM)

From the Lonsdale Battalion wiki

The following text is a Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) transcription of a Border Regiment soldier of the First World War.

Name S. Bell
Rank Sergeant
Number 10229
Other details Hackney
Date published 15 November 1918
Citation For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in a raid. When the advance was held up he crawled round behind the enemy forces holding the position and used his rifle most effectively, although wounded. He repeated this manoeuvre several times, and his determination and cool courage had a very disconcerting effect on the enemy, while his independent action caused them many casualties and saved many of the raiding party.
