Citation For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He was in charge of a Lewis gun post on a forward position, which was attacked by the enemy in large numbers. Though half his team were put out of action and there was a large gap on his right, he held his ground and inflicted heavy casualties on the enemy. He showed splendid courage and determination under heavy fire on this and many other occasions.
