The following text is a Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) transcription of a Border Regiment soldier of the First World War.

Name W. Robinson
Rank Lance Corporal
Number 23903
Other details Border Regiment
Date published 25 August 1917
Citation For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty when with an officers’ patrol which had been sent out to locate the enemy. Encountering a hostile patrol on their return, his officer was killed, whereupon he and a comrade rushed the enemy post and shot five of them, although fired upon from all sides. His party withdrew without further casualties, and were enabled to bring back information of great value, which was largely owing to this prompt and gallant action.
