1916 (Wednesday)
- The Commanding Officer and Company Commanders leave Bethune at 10:00am to inspect trenches in the Hulluch Sector.
- The Battalion leaves Bethune at 12 noon to take over billets at Philosophe from the Royal Dublin Fusiliers.
- The men get the opportunity to bathe.
- Five officers return from Divisional School.
- Trench strength at 305 other ranks and 15 officers.
1917 (Thursday)
- A Company and C Company practice 'Rapid Consolidation'; B Company and D Company in musketry and firing.
- Sports take place in the afternoon.

The majority of the events shown on this day (23 August), including any supplementary notes, enlistments and statistical data etc., have been primarily sourced from the Lonsdale Battalion War Diary (November 1915 to June 1918), Record of the XIth (Service) Battalion (Lonsdale) and abridged material from Timeline and Chronology of the Lonsdale Battalion (September 1914 - May 1915), which are sourced from the original DLONS/L/13/13 Lowther Estate Archives.
