1916 (Saturday)

  • Battalion leaves Noyelle for support trenches in the Cambrin Sector, arriving at 5:15pm where they relieve the 1st Sherwood Foresters.
  • Battalion Headquarters is situated at 'Maison Rouge.' Strength in the trenches totals 20 officers (including medical officer) and 280 other ranks.
  • Hostile observation balloons are taken down.
  • Commanding Officer visits 'Sims Keep' and 'Arthur's Keep' and finds all correct.
  • Privates Miles Capstick (15584) and Desmond John McMahon (26051)[note 1] die at home in the UK.
