The following text is a Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) transcription of a Border Regiment soldier of the First World War.

Citation For conspicuous gallantry on the 28th June 1915, on the Gallipoli peninsula. He led an attack on an enemy trench, clearing it with hand to hand fighting with the bayonet. Later in the day he volunteered to carry a message over open ground swept by heavy fire, and, although wounded, he successfully struggled back and delivered the answer. He gave an exhibition of great bravery and devotion to duty.
