The following text is a Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) transcription of a Border Regiment soldier of the First World War.

Name F. T. Sanderson
Rank Lance Sergeant
Number 12065
Other details 1/5th Border Regiment Territorial Force (Rochdale)
Date published 25 February 1920
Citation For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty east of Favil on 5th November 1918. Whilst in command of a platoon he saw a hostile machine-gun post about 400 yards off. Ordering his men back whilst still observed, he, with the greatest courage, succeeded in creeping so close to the machine-gun post the he was able to open fire at short range, killing four of the enemy and putting the rest to flight.
