For events that took place elsewhere, see 21 February on The Great War wiki.

1916 (Monday)

  • Hénencourt Wood: Situated in hut billets involved in fatigue duties.
  • Private Morrison Timmins (19499 ) writes a letter to the Workington Star and Harrington Guardian:
Dear Sir, I am writing these few lines thanking you for the parcel I received yesterday, also “Juno” and the customers of the “Black Cock”, Distington. We are now out of the trenches for a rest a few miles behind the firing line, living in canvas huts in a wood surrounded by nothing else but mud. The Old Toms, pipe and tobacco came in handy, and I divided the cigs between my pals. Again thanking you and wishing your paper every success.[1]
