1915 (Thursday)

Events preceding the Lonsdales' arrival in France

• Battalion strength: 22 officers, 35 sergeants, 39 corporals, 1207 other ranks; total 1303.
• Robert Irving (17572) enlists into E Company.
• F. Allison (13890) is transferred from from D Company to A Company.
• A. Mattinson (13371) is discharged on medical grounds.

1916 (Friday)

• The following newspaper articles are published: Lonsdales Bring in Their First Prisoners / Fit and Ready for Anything / A Smile for Everybody and Always Obliging
• Relief of the 17th Highland Light Infantry is postponed owing to a bombardment by Allied artillery.

1917 (Sunday)

• Battalion is situated at Lytham Camp near Beaussart where they practice drill for an attack to take place. The Commanding Officer explains the general practice scheme to the officers. Practice ground is laid out to correspond to actual.

1918 (Monday)

• Boezinge: Situated at Bosinge Camp. Bathing is allotted for the remaining half of the men.
• Battalion moves forward into the line and relieves the 1st Dorset Regiment.
