Citation For conspicuous gallantry on the 21st August 1915, at Suvla Bay (Dardanelles) when he successfully carried messages under heavy fire to the firing line throughout the day and night, bringing back helpful reports. Corporal Townley was engaged on this dangerous work continually for eighteen hours without rest.
