1915 (Monday)

• German attacks repulsed by French near Ypres and by British west of La Bassée.
• Ground lost by French near Craonne.
• Zeppelin brought down by Libau forts.
• Russian advance in Pillkallen district (East Prussia); hard fighting in the Carpathians.
• British raid on Alexandretta; telegraph wires cut.
• German light cruiser Gazelle torpedoed by Russian submarine off Rugen, but towed to harbour.
• German Government issues decree seizing all stocks of grain and flour as from 1 February.
