Citation For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. When his officers had been killed he took command of a half company and consolidated an advanced position, making his dispositions for defence, reconnaissance, and a subsequent withdrawal with the utmost skill and coolness. His courage and fine leadership inspired confidence in all his men.
