The following text is a Distinguished Conduct Medal (DCM) transcription of a Border Regiment soldier of the First World War.

Name J. Tremble
Rank Corporal
Number 14678
Other details Border Regiment
Date published 25 August 1917
Citation For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in dashing forward on his own initiative and attacking an enemy post single-handed, which was firing on his platoon. This hostile fire was seriously delaying the work of the consolidation, and his gallant act in clearing the post, during which he killed three and captured three prisoners, saved his platoon many casualties.
