Lonsdale Battalion events that took place on 17 September.

1914
- Approval of the Army Council is given (War Office letter No. 20/Gen. No./3162 (A.G.1) and an Executive Committee is formed.
- Earl of Lonsdale and the Executive Committee decide to raise the "Lonsdale Battalion" in three detachments: Carlisle, Kendal and Workington.[1]
1916
- In reserve line billets. Finds working parties for the front line trenches and Royal Engineers.
1917
- In the front line. Encounters a raid on C Company's lines about 3:30am with one other rank killed and one wounded.
- Heavy hostile bombardment on left sub-sector (St. Georges and Lombardzyde) during the afternoon.
- One enemy soldier, who is wounded during raid on C Company, is brought into 11th Border's lines.

- ↑ There were four companies in the three detachments: A and B Companies from East and North Cumberland were based at Blackhall Racecourse in Carlisle, C Company from Westmorland was based at Kendal, and D Company from West Cumberland was based at Workington.
