1915

  • Proposal to proceed to Grantham by train on 7 April.[1]

1916

  • Battalion situated in rest billets in Dernancourt.[2]
"Getting short of officers. The regular battalions are always changing, but these North-Country men want to know their officers thoroughly or they count for very little."[3]Lt-Col. P. W. Machell

1917

  • Battalion parades in fighting order and marches east, leaving Nesle at 12 noon. They pass through Voyennes to Toulle, arriving there 3.30pm where they remain there for 3 hours. At 6.45pm they continue to march to ground north of Germaine and dig trenches on a 700 yard frontage, facing eastwards.[4]

1918

  • Battalion moves from the sunken road at Ransart at 8.30am to occupy old trenches in the vicinity of Adinfer Wood. 2 Companies in rear and 2 on the right flank.[5]
  • Later in day the rear Companies move to the front of the wood. The men dig shelters in the sides of old trenches. Battalion Headquarters is located at the rear.[5]
