- Approval of the Army Council is given (War Office letter No. 20/Gen. No./3162 (A.G.1) and an Executive Committee is formed.
- Earl of Lonsdale and the Executive Committee decide to raise the "Lonsdale Battalion" in three detachments: Carlisle, Kendal and Workington.[a]
- Enlistments: Alfred James Chandler (15321 Pte.)
1916 (Sunday)
- In reserve line billets (Harley Street). Finds working parties for the front line trenches and Royal Engineers.
1917 (Monday)
- In the front line. Encounters a raid on C Company's lines about 3:30am with one other rank killed and one wounded.
- Heavy hostile bombardment on left sub-sector (St. Georges and Lombardzyde) during the afternoon.
- One enemy soldier, who is wounded during raid on C Company, is brought into the Lonsdale's lines.
- Deaths: Fred Clancey (28832 Pte.)
