1915 (Sunday)

Events preceding the Lonsdales' arrival in France

• Proposal to proceed to Grantham by train on 7 April.

1916 (Tuesday)

• Dernancourt: Situated in rest billets.
• Lt-Col. P. W. Machell: “Getting short of officers. The regular battalions are always changing, but these North-Country men want to know their officers thoroughly or they count for very little.

1917 (Wednesday)

• Battalion parades in fighting order and marches east, leaving Nesle at 12 noon passing through Voyennes to Toulle, arriving 3.30pm. They halt here for three hours.
• March continues at 6.45pm to area north of Germaine.
• Trenches are dug on a 700 yard frontage, facing eastwards.
• Deaths: Thomas Gilbert Davies (27726 Pte.) / Ernest Harold Gough (27750 Pte.)

1918 (Thursday)

• Battalion moves from the sunken road at Ransart at 8.30am to occupy old trenches in the vicinity of Adinfer Wood.
• Two companies in rear and two on the right flank. Rear companies move to the front of the wood later in the day.
• Shelters are dug in the sides of old trenches.
• Battalion Headquarters is located at the rear.
