Earl of Lonsdale and the Executive Committee decide to raise the "Lonsdale Battalion" in three detachments: Carlisle, Kendal and Workington.^{[note 1]}

In reserve line billets (Harley Street). Finds working parties for the front line trenches and Royal Engineers.

1917 (Monday)

In the front line. Encounters a raid on C Company's lines about 3:30am with one other rank killed and one wounded.
Heavy hostile bombardment on left sub-sector (St. Georges and Lombardzyde) during the afternoon.
One enemy soldier, who is wounded during raid on C Company, is brought into the Lonsdale's lines.
Deaths: Fred Clancey (28832 Pte.)
