  • Lt-Col Machell’s draft letter re discharge: Private J. Simpson....this man....is so dull witted, stupid and obstinate as to be incapable of learning his drill. He is unable to keep step or to perform the simplest of movements correctly. He is of powerful physique, and I have personally endeavoured to induce him to try & keep up with his comrades. 1917

  • Battalion situated in the Roubrouck Area is inspected by the Divisional Commander at 11am.[3]
