1914
- Bedding return for A Company: blankets 828, mattresses 303 bolsters [pillows] 303.[1]
- Letter from Lt-Col. Machell: “....I consulted the Committee of the Cumberland Infirmary, who have agreed to allow men of the Battalion under my command to occupy up to thirty beds provided that the cases are suitable for admission, and that there is room.” [2]
1915
- Newspaper article: A Perpetual Stream of Bullets.[3]

- Battalion is relieved by the 17th Highland Light Infantry, moving to billets at Aveluy, close behind the lines.[4]
- Involved in fatigue duties[5] for the Royal Engineers.[4]
1916
- Battalion situated at Puchevillers. Church parade.[6]
- 150 other ranks involved in working parties[7] on railhead etc.[8][6]
- Fitting and testing of new small box respirators.
