*Hartlepool, Whitby and [[Scarborough]] [[bombarded]] by German warships.<ref>Scarborough: enemy cruisers attacked the town about 8 a.m. Entered Scarborough Bay under the cover of dawn and mist. [[Bombardment]] lasted half and hour, 18 people killed, 100 wounded. Whitby: bombarded the same day about 9 a.m. for half and hour. The abbey and private property was slightly damaged. No damage of military importance.</ref>
